Save the Children: Every One Campaign
World leaders have made an historic promise to reduce child mortality by two-thirds and maternal mortality by three-quarters by 2015 as part of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Child and mother mortality
However, progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals is currently off-track and millions of newborn babies, children and mothers around the world are continuing to die.
Over 7.6 million children die before their fifth birthday each year – that’s one child every four seconds.
The biggest killers are diseases such as malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea. These deaths could easily be prevented using well-known and relatively cheap life-saving interventions.
To reach the children and mothers that need our help, the world requires more than 3.5 million additional health workers, including one million community health workers.
Access to health workers
The Unilever Foundation has made a three-year commitment to support EVERY ONE, Save the Children’s biggest global campaign designed to save millions of lives through inspiring urgent action towards eradicating mortality among children and mothers.
The EVERY ONE campaign’s ambitious aim is to ensure the global promise made to children and mothers is kept.
The partnership will involve improving access to health workers and life-saving vaccines, and ensuring children in need are reached with high-impact health and nutrition programs. The partnership will also provide a platform to catalyze a global movement and generate the public and political will for a global breakthrough on child survival.
Together with Save the Children, we will deliver transformational change that will impact millions of lives around the world.
Unilever is also working with Save the Children on disaster and emergency relief in Pakistan, the Horn of Africa and Japan.
More information about our partnership with Save the Children will be shared here as it becomes available.
