Success in the saddle
In step with its commitment to health and vitality, Lipton is proud to announce that three of its TEAm LIPTON riders, Anna Milkowski, Liza Rachetto and Kristen LaSasso, were chosen to participate in USA Cycling's Talent I.D. Camp. This competitive event was held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from July 4 through July 12. The Camp plays an important role in USA Cycling's talent development goal, working to build a younger, stronger and highly competitive team for the 2008 Olympics.
Lipton is the title sponsor of the 2005 TEAm LIPTON Pro Cycling and Triathlon team, competing in more than 150 events in 28 states this March through October.
"TEAm LIPTON's significant presence at the Camp confirms our stellar reputation in the professional cycling circuit as well as recognizes our athletes' tremendous accomplishments," stated Trish Zenobi, Lipton Tea Senior Brand Manager. "TEAm LIPTON is the embodiment of the Brand's 'Drink Better Everyday...Live Better Everyday' vision. We look forward to sharing the future accomplishments of our TEAm Lipton riders. Please join us in congratulating our team."
USA Cycling identified the cyclists to take part in the camp based on their high levels of physiological and psychological capability to succeed at the international level, with the hopes of ultimately representing the US National Cycling team. The Camp's programming included lectures on training, nutrition, tactics and strategy, as well as performance testing, bike fit evaluations, interviews with National Team coaches, intensive group training rides and a time trial.
In addition to the upcoming Olympics, athletes who are selected to the USA Cycling national squad will also represent the country at other high-profile international sporting competitions such as the World Championships and the PAN-AM Games. Typically, about half of Camp cyclists are invited to join the national team.
"The athletes are extremely excited for the potential opportunity to represent our country on the international stage, as well as share best practices and lessons from Camp with the rest of the team," stated Julie Upton, TEAm LIPTON's Manager. "We are proud to receive this honor while wearing Lipton colors."
TEAm LIPTON is the only elite-level team of women road cyclists and triathletes in the US as well as the youngest squad in the women's professional cycling peloton and World Cup triathlon circuit.
To further promote healthy living, Lipton is collaborating with the cyclists throughout the summer season to rally enthusiasm for cycling and other recreational sports, nationwide. Lipton will also make a contribution to the National Parks Foundation for each race that each TEAm LIPTON member places in the top four.
