In theory and practise
At Unilever, clearly outlined values and standards guide us. These are set out in our corporate purpose and given practical application in our code of business principles.
Our corporate purpose states that we are dedicated to the quality of life for consumers everywhere. We are here to provide unique and effective brands with products that are useful in the real world, that fire the imagination and make people look and feel good.
In the process of making and marketing these products, we treat all stakeholders with integrity. Our code of business principles explains in detail how these relationships should be managed. Consumers, employees, suppliers, competitors, shareholders - we apply the highest standards of ethics and consideration to all. We also include local communities and the natural environment among our key stakeholders, treating them with equal care and respect.
To make sure our code is understood throughout the business, we’ve set up a code committee, to help us put it into practice. We also operate a confidential ‘ethics’ hotline so people can report instances where they think the code may have been breached.
