You probably have Vaseline® Jelly or lotions tucked away somewhere in your medicine cabinet or bathroom, but likely don’t think about it until you’ve got chapped lips, dry skin or a small cut. Those might seem like minor annoyances, but for people living on the frontlines of crisis and disaster, or affected by extreme poverty, these issues are much more common and painful, adding to a traumatic situation.
With the worsening refugee crises around the globe, particularly in Syria, many think of food, water and shelter, but skin care turns out to be an essential need.
I didn’t expect that skin health would have such an impact on the daily lives of the refugees.Dermatologist Samer Jaber
Founding the project
The importance of this issue became clear when two dermatologists visited a refugee camp in Jordan. They found out that skin issues, like dry and cracked feet caused by traveling long distances on hot sand and roads, could keep people from finding jobs to support their children.
Reaching out worldwide
In 2015 alone, the Vaseline® brand donated over a million products to Direct Relief’s partner hospitals and clinics around the world, and sponsored medical missions to Kenya, the Philippines and Jordan.
You can check out the healing map to find out where aid is going, and get more information from videos and slideshows that show how The Vaseline® Healing Project is helping people the world over.
Beyond donating Vaseline® products and sending doctors to the frontlines, the project is encouraging consumer to create virtual relief kits for the families in need that can be filled with medical supplies like gauze or latex gloves. The Vaseline® brand will also donate to the project’s mission each time anyone purchases Vaseline® jelly or lotion*.
All part of the plan
