We can take action and make history

Published:

It’s hard to believe that our actions could affect billions of people, but when it comes to climate change, our decisions matter to everyone – from the food we eat to the information we share.

The effects of climate change are already here. Around the world natural disasters have cost lives and devastated families. Entire species are under threat, farmers are suffering and our resources are being stretched. Climate change is happening now, but it’s not too late to make the right choices and build a brighter future for our planet.

Unilever believe in a world where everyone lives well and lives sustainably. This is why we want to inspire and mobilize millions to take climate action and help make a change.

Unilever is already part of a movement to eradicate deforestation, which contributes up to 15% of greenhouse gas emissions, and threatens 1.6 billion livelihoods. In 2014 we signed the New York Declaration on Forests. This signatories’ collective commitment to ending deforestation could prevent billions of tons of carbon dioxide from entering our atmosphere by 2030.

We’ve shown the great things that are possible when we commit to climate change and our work has been recognized by Oxfam in their Behind the Brands’ scorecard. We achieved an industry world first by delivering zero non-hazardous waste to landfill from our global factory network. Since 2008 we’ve reduced our waste by 30%, cut water abstraction by 29% per ton of production and reduced CO2 from energy by 32% per ton of production. (See what Unilever is accomplishing in the fight against climate change).

We are working hard to do our part but we can’t do it alone. Governments, businesses, communities and individuals must come together and join in the fight to secure the future of our planet for, not just our children, but generations to come.

We partnering with WWF to help protect one million trees in two of the world’s most threatened areas: Brazil and Indonesia. The partnership focused on reducing deforestation and forest degradation, restoring forest areas, promoting sustainable forest management and increasing tree stocks in agricultural landscapes.

By working together for the world, we can build a brighter future.
