Suave and Dollar General Scholarships
Nationwide Contest Awards more than $85 000 in Scholarships
CHICAGO, IL (November 7, 2005) – Casey Buie has a little less to worry about when it comes to funding her education, thanks to Suave and Dollar General. The Hammond, Louisiana student was the grand prize winner of the Suave and Dollar General Contest and will receive $10 000 towards her education. For the second year, value brand leaders Suave® and Dollar General® have teamed up to salute the value of education by awarding scholarship money to students who entered a national essay contest.
Casey stood out in a pool of more than 6000 applicants, which is nearly double the amount of applicants from last year. A student at Holy Ghost Catholic School, she is already a rising star in her 8th grade class and dedicates herself to education and personal enrichment. Casey scores nearly straight A's in the classroom and on the basketball court as an aspiring WNBA player who hopes to play for Louisiana State University one day. Casey's earnest essay was written at the behest of her mother who saw the entry form in the Sunday paper and urged her to enter. "I'm so glad she did," said Casey, "The scholarship will help me achieve my dreams."
The Suave and Dollar General Scholarship Contest rewards students for their belief in the value of education. One grand prize winner received $10 000 and 15 first prize winners were awarded $5,000 to further their education1. Computer gift certificates for $500 also were given to 150 second prize winners.
"We're thrilled to help students make their educational dreams a reality and salute each of the winners for their dedication to higher education," says Jennifer Mandler, Unilever Customer Marketing, Suave.
